Marquis Depiro: Christmas at the amazing Casa Rocca Piccola

This year’s Christmas Day broadcast took place from Casa Rocca Piccola in Valletta, the ancestral home of the Marquis and Marchioness Depiro.   Marquis Depiro shared some of his favourite childhood memories of Christmas.

‘I remember our Christmas lunches with Archbishop Gonzi who always came to have Christmas lunch with us.  I remember my sister Madeleine who had just passed her driving test, driving the Archbishop back home after lunch as he would have given his chauffeur the rest of the day off.   We used to have a full table with many guests, a very special occasion.   Food was abundant.  We would start with Timpana, ham and turkey and of course plum pudding.

This has been a terrible year for everyone.   My children all want to come and gather here despite the pandemic.  They have all taken medical advice and are coming from abroad.  We will be very careful and stay indoors – life is unreal at the moment’
