The range of greek yoghurts in local supermarkets is vast and sometimes it is confusing to know which one to choose.
There is a difference between authentic Greek Yogurt and ‘Greek Style Yoghurt’ . In addition you can also find full fat yogurts, fat free, and reduced fat versions.
Kolios yogurt contains no thickeners. It is firm, creamy in texture and I often use it as a substitute to cream or sometimes I reduce the cream content in a recipe and add half Greek Yogurt and half cream because it is glossy and therefore gives a great result when added to sauces, ganaches or other recipes where cream is traditionally used.
I particularly liked the pomegranate and raspberry Authentic Greek Yoghurt by Kolios. It consists of a layer of fruit puree topped with greek yoghurt.
And it is firm enough to serve with bakes and cakes or a fruit salad or indeed on its own as a light and refreshing dessert after a meal.
I sometimes add more fresh pomegranates and raspberries to finish off and it is just divine. Otherwise a couple of tablespoons of oats for a wholesome nutritious breakfast.

Greek Yoghurt has nearly double the amount of protein as regular yogurt, nearly half of the carbohydrate content and it is also lower in sodium.
People who have a mild lactose intolerance may be able to tolerate greek yoghurt depending on the level of their intolerance. When greek yoghurt is produced most of the whey has been strained and during the process most of the lactose is also removed although it does not make it completely lactose free.
